Patzcuaro is the jewel of the colonial cities. It is small and friendly. During the 16th century it was the capital of the state of Michoacan thanks to Don Vasco de Quiroga the great humanitarian defender of indigenous rights. Patzcuaro perhaps best represents the fusion of two cultures, Mexican and Spanish.

"La Casa Encantada is a delightful B&B, perfectly located one block off the main plaza in Patzcuaro, an ideal base to explore the surrounding villages ... the rooms were very comfortable with fireplaces to warm yourself after a chilly day. August is rainy season and it does pour so this was very much appreciated. The hosts Victoria and Cynthia were very nice ... the staff is very competent ... Breakfast (at 9 am) was delicious. Recommended for dining is Mishtongo, across the street, with music on Friday and Saturday night."
