The historical center is a truly medieval-looking town of dark grey stone, narrow streets, and Gothic architecture. Gubbio is famous for the Corsa dei Ceri, one of the best-known folklore events in Italy, a spectacular race held every year on May 15, in which three teams, devoted to Sant'Ubaldo (the patron saint of Gubbio), San Giorgio, and Sant'Antonio, run clad in the distinctive colours of yellow, blue and black, with white trousers and red belts and neckbands, up the mountain from the main square in front of the Palazzo dei Consoli to the basilica of Sant'Ubaldo, each team carrying a statue of their saint mounted on a wooden octagonal prism, 16 feet high and weighing over 900 pounds; the Ceri were also chosen as the coat of arms of the Umbria region. Also enjoy National Park M. Cucco with the Frasassi Caves, Perugia, Assisi and Trasimeno Lake while in the area. Rich in history and in nature, Umbria offers the Falls of the Marmore, which are the highest in Italy; the sources of the Clitunno and Mount Subasio. The Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli and the Rocca Maggiore. The ancient city of Spoleto offers the Roman Theater and Druso’s Arch. Near Perugia, people can visit the Ipogeo del Volumni, which is an Etruscan tomb. Our Farmhouse offers:
