Activities/Attractions: A tourist region par excellence, Sintra is one of the most delightful places to be found in Portugal. With its extensive range of green bills with its crags - the Serra de Sintra - so picturesquely situated and offering stupendous views of the coastline with its impressive beauty, Sintra is indeed "a garden of the earthly paradise". The tourist potentialities of Sintra also include winegrowing, of proven standard, the quarries producing marble (which for centuries have embellished various regions), its traditional confectionery and cooking and, of course, the fecund production of its handicraft workshops. "In all the land of Portugal, the whole expanse of Europe, Sintra stands out as one of the loveliest, rarest places that Nature's prodigious hand has created", wrote the poet Afonso Lopes Vieira. And the English poet Robert Southey describes Sintra as "the most bless, spot on the whole inhabitable globe".
"We loved the Quinta da Capela. This manor home is spectacular, beautifully decorated and the setting is magnificent. The owners are very nice and informative. We can't say enough about this place." "From our attractive comfortable and spacious room, one could relax on the chaise and gaze out the window at 4 (four) castles at once! It was like being in a fairytale but with one's eyes wide open. The castles are magical to visit too. We wouldn't have missed it for the world." "The hotel is so beautiful - the setting is simply stunning - it really is amazing. The grounds are to die for & i don't think I've ever slept so well." |
"This small
former manor house is a real gem. Very friendly staff gave great recommendations for dining and driving in the Sintra area." |
General Information: Welcome to Quinta da Capela in Colares, Sintra, Portugal ... a 16th century Manor transformed into one of Europe’s most charming and picturesque Inns offering beauty and peace just minutes from the centre of Portugal and the Atlantic Coast. We are located only 20 km from Lisbon Airport and are pleased to arrange a private car and English speaking driver to meet you, or return you to either airport or railway station. The original building on this site was built in the 16th century by Duke of Cadaval. It was partly destroyed by the great Lisbon earthquake of 1755 and was rebuilt in 1773 in its present Portuguese rural style. In 1980 the Quinta was converted into one of the most pleasant country Inns in Portugal. Over the past decade great care has been engaged to refurbish the Quinta in a style that provides a luxurious environment whilst maintaining the beauty and heritage of this magnificent place.

The property is lovely, the staff exemplary and the value exceptional. We cannot wait to return." "The staff is extremely welcoming and helpful. And, the breakfast room provides for a refreshing start of a day of exploration. From there one is literally 10-15 minutes to the town of Sintra, another 10-15 minutes to the Atlantic coast, and around half an hour to Cascais. We’d happily stay there on our next visit." "The house was beautifully set and tastefully furnished, breakfast was perfect!" "This place is simply magical - a perfect antidote to the stresses of modern life. Set in a lush green valley in Sintra, every window of the old manor house has stunning views; distant domes and palaces (illuminated at night), beautifully manicured gardens and patios filled with exotic plants. The interior is spectacular too, with all the rooms tastefully decorated with Portuguese antiques and a roaring log fire in the lounge. The fish restaurants they recommended along the Atlantic coast were excellent. All in all, a perfect weekend." |
