Activities/Attractions: With all of its modern amenities, it's hard to imagine that the small community of Shepherdstown may be the oldest town in the state of West Virginia. Descendants of European settlers may have migrated here a early as 1719. Once known as Potomoke, it eventually became known as Mecklenburg in the 1730s and was chartered in 1762 by the Virginia General Assembly. It was renamed Shepherd's Town in 1798 in honor of Thomas Shepherd, an early settler. After the Civil War, the community was officially recognized as Shepherdstown.

Shepherdstown is situated on a bluff overlooking the Potomac River, and archeological evidence indicates Native Americans camped in and around the area long before the Europeans. Several major battles between warring tribes are said to have occurred at a ford a few miles downstream.

Shepherdstown itself is an unspoiled small town of boutique shops, small excellent restaurants, and warm and friendly people. Perched on the banks of the exciting Potomac, it is one of the hidden but amazingly convenient treasures of wild and wonderful West Virginia.

General Information: Welcome to Shepherd's Cottage ... a lovely, intimate accommodation nestled on 24 park-like acres and centrally located between Harpers Ferry, Charles Town, Shepherdstown and Antietam in West Virginia. Shepherd's Cottage is new, clean, friendly, fattening, and fun, with lots of cozy and interesting corners. Its the perfect destination to which to escape or to explore. If you come with your lover, your friend or alone, you will find yourself in a place that is welcoming, warm and comfortable.

Preferred by discriminating guests that expect personal attention and fine accommodations. once in a while all our rooms are pressed into service, but that's not our preference. We prefer to have just one or two guests in order to afford them the attention and plenty of privacy that makes 'getting away' special. Features and amenities include:

• Outside we have an inground pool, hot tub, bocce court, gazebo with columns, fire pit
