Host: Antonio Guestrooms: 9 Address: Via Dante Alighieri, 29 - San Quirico d'Orcia, Siena, Italy Click here for location. Telephone: (0039) 0577.899016 Fax: (0039) 0577.899838 Activities/Attractions: San Quirico is a charming, walled town on the northern edge of the Val d'Orcia of southern Tuscany in this agricultural hinterland of Siena. The distinctive landscape of the Val d'Orcia, flat chalk plains interspersed by almost conical hills topped by fortified settlements, inspired many Sienese artists, and their paintings have come to exemplify the beauty of well-managed Renaissance agricultural landscapes, where the inhabitants are depicted as living in harmony with Nature. Today, the Val D'Orcia is a destination in itself, and its expansive, sweeping landscape is tremendously attractive. The Rome-Florence railway line and most of the road traffic passes well to the east, down the Val di Chiana, leaving the Val d'Orcia to walkers, cyclists and those who motor rather than drive. The Val D’Orcia is a succession of gently rolling hills striped with the colours of soil and rock, of vines and the silvery mass of olive trees, interrupted here and there by bushy gullies spotted with green, seems like a painting, united and harmonious. To the first time visitor, the valley appears to be immersed in a surreal silence, accompanied by lines of cypress, forests of holm oak, cedars, chestnuts, white beech and walnut; then there is broom bush, wild roses and orchids, and all under the protection of Mount Amiata in the background. Those who reach the town of San Quirico D’Orcia are greeted by a medieval atmosphere and a mysterious aura originating in its Etruscan origins and its location on the ancient Via Francigena with all its Templar mysteries. Casa Lemmi and next-door Palazzo Lemmi has large charming, Tuscan-style rooms, with modern conveniences like air-conditioning, a modern bathroom, and Internet access. Breakfast buffet includes bread, cheese, meats and cake; guests can take breakfast either indoors or outside in the beautiful garden. Antonio and his wife Rosanna were efficient and hospitable, and went out of their way to make our stay really memorable. Casa Lemmi is located in the center of the small town of San Quirico d'Orcia, with good bars, trattorias and cafes nearby. The town is in the famous Val d'Orcia region; Pienza, Montalcino and the Abbazio d'Sant Antimo, and Montepulciano, are less than an hour's drive away. If you are looking for a bed and breakfast in a traditional Tuscan home in a quiet town in Val d'Orcia, at reasonable prices, check out Casa Lemmi's website." |
