Activities/Attractions: Viterbo is the northernmost of the 5 provinces in the autonomous region of Lazio. Geographically, much of it is on rather barren volcanic land, and the larger lakes in the area are extinct volcano craters. Historically, we are often in Etruscan territory, so that many of the most interesting known Etruscan sites are found in Viterbo province: Tarquinia, Caere, Vulci, Tuscania, to name a few.
Founded in the 1920s, the Viterbo area is coastal to the west, giving way to rolling hills and mountains to the east. Local cuisine is very highly developed. Of special note are the fish dishes made from fresh and salt water fish caught nearby and the many artichoke dishes that are unique to the province.
B&B Faleri is strategically located for daytrips by car to nearby Etruscan Necropoli and related archeological sites (Tarquinia, Tuscania, Vulci), museums, Medieval and Renaissance castles and palaces. Maria is only too happy to suggest the most interesting day-trips. She speaks English and French.
- Lake Bolsena provides an ideal
setting for bike riding, swimming (in crystal clear water), fishing,
boating and other aquatic sports
- The other lake towns (Bolsena,
Marta, Capodimone, Gradoli etc.) offer a wealth of atmospheric piazzas
and streets, historic sites, friendly inhabitants and dining
opportunities
- Villa Lante, Parco dei Mostri on
Bomarzo, and other local parks provide opportunities for interesting,
leisurely strolls
- Southern Umbria (Orvieto, Todi,
Deruta, Assisi, Perugia, Spoleto) and Tuscany (Siena, Montepulciano,
Pienza) are also easily reachable by car

"I got this reference to Maria's B&B from a great friend who lives in the area. It turned out to be a terrific place to stay. The rooms are clean, have TVs, and the street is quiet with a view of the big cathedral on top of the hill. Maria sets out a great spread of breakfast goodies at the time the guests choose, and she is a cheerful, gracious host. Maria speaks English which was helpful for us, and she pointed out lots of things to see as well as a couple of great restaurants only a block away. The bathroom is totally clean and so is her kitchen where she prepares the food. We ended up staying an extra day because we found lots of things to see around this town. Maria is a retired teacher and has an extensive and impressive library. You will be staying on the 2nd floor which lends itself to a great view. We will return here again on our next trip. Maria made us feel like we were family."
