Activities/Attractions: Paihia is the main town of the Bay of Islands: a jump-off point for cruises across the bay and to its many islands, and a convenient place for lodging and dining. As a major tourist destination, the Bay of Islands offers a variety of activities and tours, many of whose operators are in seaside Paihia.

A short 1-2 minute stroll (100 metres) from the Abel Tasman Lodge, along Paihia's picturesque waterfront, will take you to Paihia's main wharf where all of the Bay of Islands fishing charters and Island cruises depart daily. This is also where you will find Paihia's central township (Williams Rd) where you can meander through the many craft and souvenir shops, and then take a leisurely break at one of the local cafes and restaurants. Paihia also offers a full range of supporting services, including banks, medical and dental facilities.

• You can relax and swim at the beach across the road from the Lodge while you keep an eye out for the dolphins that are sometimes seen offshore playing in the Bay
  
• For a change of scene, you can take a leisurely 1-2 minute stroll around The Bluff to the left and you will discover that there is another wonderful large beach for you to enjoy
  
• If you have children, there is a large children's playground located on the grassed beach reserve
  
• This beach is also ideal for swimming and relaxing while you enjoy the scenic beauty of the Bay of Islands
  

• For the more active and adventurous, at this location during the summer months, you can usually hire a Jet Ski or a Kayak so that you can get out on the water and enjoy

Abel Tasman Lodge is uniquely nestled against a bush clad reserve (The Bluff) on one side, with Paihia's Wharf and Central Township (Williams Rd) just a short 1-2 minute stroll along the waterfront to the right.

The Abel Tasman Lodge, with it's choice of accommodation, makes an ideal location where you can base yourself in comfort and explore the many delights of the Bay of Islands and Northland. Or, if you prefer, just relax, enjoy the panoramic sea views and watch the world go by.

Superior Waterfront Apartments - have panoramic ocean views across the Bay and sleep either 2 or 3 persons. Some Apartments have a Queen bed in the bedroom with a lounge suite in the lounge room (single or double).
Family Motel units With Sea Views - are not directly along the waterfront, however they are positioned so that they also have lovely Sea Views of the Bay. These are our largest units sleeping up to 5 persons.
Motel units Without Sea Views - are located along the rear of our property and, as such, do not have a view of the water. We have 1 x Studio motel unit which has a Queen bed located in the lounge/dining area.
