Activities/Attractions: While you’re enjoying the striking colors in our region, we hope you are able to take some time to see some of the other sights in Southern Windsor County. Windsor is the Birthplace of Vermont. And, the restored Old Constitution House looks much like it did more than 200 years ago. Just down the street is the American Precision Museum, which houses exhibits celebrating the manufacturing heritage of the Precision Valley. Across the road is the longest covered bridge in our country, the Windsor-Cornish Covered Bridge. Windsor is also the home of the Vermont State Craft Center at Windsor House, which is also right on Main Street.

Chester is known for its historic Stone Village and lovely village green. Nearby is the Chester Art Guild featuring the work of talented local artists. Ludlow’s the home of the Black River Academy Museum as well as the Fletcher Farm School for the Arts & Crafts. During a lazy afternoon guests can use one of out many Adirondack chairs for reading next to the brook or on the back lawn looking out over the meadow. One of out favorite resting-places is on the teak bench next to the lily and gold fish pools. For those inclined there are miles of open fields or wooded acres to explore. Extensive antiquing and specialty shopping abound in the area. The sports-minded will find our area provides with 10 minutes:

  • downhill and cross-country skiing
  • snow shoeing
  • biking
  • golfing
  • fishing
  • horseback riding
  • swimming

"We've been to several B&B's over the years throughout the states. This one is by far one of the absolute bests. While in the area, once you've come here, you will never go anywhere else. The owners are charming. The food and service is top of the line. Every time we come, we bring different friends, and no one, and I mean no one, has a complaint, just raves. Everyone sleeps like a baby. Their cat is even there to welcome you and she too makes you feel right at home. We recommend this B&B without a doubt."

Proctorsville Ludlow Vermont

General Information: Welcome to Whitney Brook Bed and Breakfast in Proctorsville, Vermont ... where Joshua Parker Green built this original Vermont farmhouse in 1871 on 120 acres at the confluence of Whitney Brook and Twenty Mile Stream. Today, the house and attached outbuildings are basically the same configuration as they were in 1871. Several hundred acres including neighboring properties surrounded the house making it a private and quiet location. Whitney Brook, for which our B&B is named, begins several miles away and passes next to the house emptying into Twenty Mile Stream.

The house has been renovated to provide a comfortable home atmosphere, while maintaining the old farmhouse charm. A large living room with fireplace and an upstairs sitting area with a selection of games are available for guests. The guestrooms include:

  • The Green Room - A queen 4 poster bed, an antique hooked rug, stencilled curtains and cross-stitched framed pictures add comfort and coziness to this room
  • The Federal Room - Furnished with a 4 poster Queen bed, comfortable wing chair and rocker has braided rugs in navy blue and barn red to match the bed coverings and accessories
  • The Newport Room - Sunlit from a south-facing window is decorated in cool blues and greens. It is furnished with a charming cherry double bed and an antique oak single bed
  • The Southwest Room - In beiges and reds, has a vaulted-beamed ceiling with two windows facing west overlooking the back meadow and woods

The Upstairs Sitting Area has been added to provide guests with a variety of books and games as well as a separate sitting area.

The Dining Room has a country atmosphere, red trim, a red Mexican tile floor and antique tables and chairs. A woodstove is set into an old original brick fireplace to warm the guests during their full country breakfast.

The Living Room is decorated in rusts and blues with sofas and wing chairs for seating. A fireplace surrounded with Delft tiles and a federal style mantle, old portraits and eclectic accessories complete this inviting room. Guest can lounge, read books or watch TV in front of a cherry fire.
